Paint looks pretty shitty but I’m not entirely certain it didn’t leave the factory that way. Ad says 1970 Nova SS 454 $12,500

Not a real SS, the rear end is the big factor. Should be a 12 bolt, pic shown is a 10 bolt. Also no stripes were offered on the nova from the factory especially those Z/28 knockoffs. There are a few ther things but this was not a true SS nova so more than lolly not a true big block car either

The angles are poor, but still something about the panel gaps seems wrong. I’d want to see it up in the air to see if it had been smacked into a guardrail at some point. Link to ad?

They never put a 454 in the ‘70 nova from what I can tell(biggest engine was the 396), but I am not an expert.

Kinja'd!!!0

Any idea what engine it has? Only 3 were SS engines for ‘70, and they were not available in non-SS trim:

L48 350
L34 396
L78 396

That’s pretty much the only identifier for ‘70. However, given the lack of badging, either this is a shitty resto job or it’s not an SS. Either way, I’d say CP.

EDIT YO: LOL 454? Not an SS mate

You might find a 454 in the Buick and the 455 ( and the mythic 442) in the Olds of that same year though.

Still that’d be fun with a 454.

Oh hell yeah it would. Kill the badges, sell it as what it is, drop the price a few large and I’d be interested. Not gonna go for some gussied-up version of my Eleanor because some chucklefuck threw a badge on the front end.

Fun facts: The other brands’ X-cars were not available in 1970; the Pontiac Ventura being the first one to come out in 1971. The Buick Apollo and Oldsmobile Omega both debuted in 1973

The 442 wasn’t an engine, but a model designation which stood for “Four barrel carburetor, four-speed manual, dual exhaust” thus 4-4-2.

Was it on the 455 Olds Rocket engine? I ask, because I had one with that exact engine in it.

The 4-4-2? It was definitely available with the 455 Rocket.

Maybe I misunderstood your statement, I thought you were saying the 442 was one of Oldsmobile’s engine sizes available in the X-car

Maybe I was wrong about the whole thing

The “396” was the largest motor offers in the camaro/nova through the regular channels. Though the 396 was really a 402ci motor. It was a bored 396 but marketing left the 396 name due established brand recognition

Kinja'd!!! camaroboy68ss > Nibbles
07/06/2015 at 16:05

Kinja'd!!!0

I’m not an expert on the nova but since many things were shared with the first gen camaro I going to assume the heater box on the firewall is different between small block and big block meaning where your heater hoses run into the core are at different locations. Most people don’t change that when swapping motors.,

The rear end is the first thing I look at when a chevy is a claimed true SS car. There are a small number of cars/combos where an SS didnt include a 12 bolt.

Oooooh one nice nova! My 68 Camaro isn't a true SS either but it's a phantom SS due to its odd options that got most of the SS goodies.
